Northwoods Trail Tracker Privacy Policy

Privacy at a glance

Northwoods Trail Tracker does not operate a developer account system or a server that receives your ride history. The app does not include advertising, cross-app tracking, or developer analytics. We do not sell your personal information.

Location and saved rides

With your permission, the app uses precise location to display your position, record rides, and provide navigation, including during active recording or guidance in the background. Saved GPS tracks, dates, speeds, destinations, waypoints, and preferences are stored on your device. Device or iCloud backups may include this app data according to your Apple settings.

Online maps and business lookups

Apple MapKit provides online maps, destination search, routes, and nearby business information. These features send relevant location or search requests to Apple. When the app identifies businesses at stops in a saved ride, it may send those stop locations to Apple. Apple processes these requests under its own privacy policy. Offline trail viewing does not require these online requests; online search and routing require connectivity.

Trail maps and PDF files

Imported trail files, PDF maps, and PDF-to-GeoJSON conversion are processed and stored on your device. Conversion does not upload your PDF to a conversion service. Downloading maps or opening county and club websites contacts the selected provider, which can receive standard network information such as your IP address. External providers have their own privacy practices.

Sharing and other apps

Sharing a ride, image, replay video, or GPX file can disclose precise routes, start and finish locations, stop or business names, dates, and speed information. Review these details before sharing. The app sends the selected content to the app or service you choose. Opening directions in another navigation app shares the selected destination with that provider.

Voice guidance

Spoken directions use Apple speech voices available on your device. The app does not record microphone audio to provide voice guidance.

Your choices and retention

You can change or revoke location permission in iPhone or iPad Settings. This affects map positioning, recording, and navigation. Use the app controls to delete saved rides and waypoints, clear recent destinations, and remove downloaded maps. Local data remains until you remove it or delete the app. Copies you export, share, or keep in backups must be managed separately.

Support

If you email northwoodstrailtracker@yahoo.com, your email provider and ours process your email address, message, and any attachments. We use information you send to respond to your request. Avoid including private ride locations unless needed. You can contact this address with privacy questions or to request deletion of support correspondence.

Policy changes

We will update this policy when the app’s privacy practices change. The policy is available inside the app and will be published on the Northwoods Trail Tracker website. Effective date: October 30, 2026.
